Long Time Coming

I just spent a good 45 minutes in the new yarn store in Portland, KnitWit, due to the good graces of my coworker Emily. She let me leave early so I could enjoy the day a bit, as we were doing just about nothing. No sense in two of us pacing the office, right? So I took a trip up to KnitWit.

KnitWit is at 247 A Congress Street, and is both lys and cafe. The organization was somewhat confusing, partly by color, but by yarn in places. And not at all in others. The yarn selection is different from Halcyon or Pine Tree Yarns, which is good. The people working/hanging out were nice enough, and probably would have been nicer if I were a more talkative person. The woman who took my money also graduated from Bowdoin, Class of '87, but seemed a bit ambivalent about the school. I was excited, though. I wonder if Bowdoin knows about her? They should do a story in the Sun. I bought myself a skein of Cascade 220 Quatro, in a very happy pink/red/orange combo that may turn itself into a purse.

The purse I'm currently working on is a tasty blue reworking of Sophie. I loved this purse, and made myself one that I'm quite pleased with. I have some exciting changes to make this one more my own, with a braided cables into braided handles, and more symmetrical decreases. I also want to line it after felting.

I had a great birthday full of knitting goodness. My new set of Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles is already being put to good use, as are my two new books, Knitting on the Edge and Folk Bags. Jim got me some notions I've been craving for awhile, namely some point protectors (so my lace scarf doesn't come off the needles and the needles don't poke menacingly out of my cute Sophie) and some stitch holders. He's really the best man ever when it comes to being supportive of my knitting. He also got me a copy of Reality Bites on DVD, and the Paul Simon Songbook on CD (current listening). We went to Lee's graduation on Saturday, and spent a quiet day at the beach on Sunday. At graduation I got to see my old friend Amy, who I haven't seen in probably four years. It was a tad awkward, but I'm really happy I got to see her. She looked so good! Speaking of graduation, I got an email yesterday about a five year reunion. Not sure how I feel about that one, but I guess it's good inspiration to lose weight.
